Narrative

The Sacred Talisman is a luxury fashion scarf collection that showcases my image-making ability through conversational scarf designs. The scarves are highly symbolic and adopt the role of being my good omens, or talismans, for life after university. Composed in challenging, surreal ways, the designs are inspired by metaphors, transformation, encouragement, and metamorphosis, and draw on the power of symbolism within nature. Considering colour, and its evocative ability, the project adopts a maximalist aesthetic that radiates sophistication, complexity, and intrigue. I consistently refer to the projects I complete as therapeutic endeavors, whereby the creative process is equally as significant in fulfilling the purpose of the project, as the final outcomes. The supporting body of work shows development, not only in the process, but visual language, and ability as a forthcoming designer. This project symbolises my transformation throughout the course of my degree, whereby I am able to reflect on what I have achieved and be reminded of my auspicious beginning as a graduate.

THE SACRED TALISMAN VOLUME 1 SEES CONFIDENT ENGINEERED PRINTS ACROSS GARMENTS THAT INJECT COLOUR, PLACEMENT, AND SCALE. A SURREALIST COMPOSITION OF SEVEN ANIMALS EMBODIES THE ROLE OF A SACRED TALISMAN WHO POSSESSES COMBINED SYMBOLISM OF ITS COMPONENTS. THE SACRED TALISMAN’S POSITION IS TO ENCOURAGE THE WEARER TO FEED OFF ITS STRENGTH AND ABILITY, THROUGH ITS COMBINED SYMBOLIC QUALITIES. A METAPHYSICAL

BODY OF ARMOUR THAT PROVIDES PERSEVERANCE, WILL, COURAGE, AND KNOWLEDGE TO THE WEARER, TO AID THEM THROUGH TRANSITION AND TRANSFORMATION.

CRANES IN FLIGHT REPRESENT THE STRONG RESOLVE THAT COMES FROM A CALM HEART. THE BIRDS WISDOM AND HOPE, CAPTURED IN MOTION, ENCOURAGES THE WEARER TO EMBRACE THE RHYTHM OF LIFE, TRUSTING THAT THE CRANE WILL PROTECT, PROVIDE WISDOM, AND MAJESTY.
