The Sacred Talisman

This is me

A surface pattern designer-maker inspired by all things that surround us. Taking inspiration from objects, colours, places, people, and trends, to create new works, elevating the ordinary to something refreshing and with strong emotional concepts. Noticing connections between the surrounding environment and the self fuels my work and the connections created as a result. Revealing relationships and encouraging discovery within myself and my audience.

Designing PATTERNS
for
surfaces of all natures,
on the
SKIN, in the home, and on the body.

Working with colour theory and underpinning works with contextual understanding helps drive the effect of these narratives in combination with materials and practice.

I’d describe my style as ‘realism meets abstract’ being a combination of observational studies with collage, stitch and embroidery, print, digital renders, and mark-making. Continually being drawn back to a humble fine liner, loose, continuous line drawings are what I lose myself in. Alongside this, coloured pencils, oil pastels, various pens, and wet media, combined with material and paper collages are approaches that drive new discoveries and experimentation.

I have previously delved into the world of textiles and material manipulation where I stumbled upon a passion for all things textural. Exploring surface manipulation through various approaches like laser cutting, flocking, pleating, printing, and stitching to form new, hybridized textiles.

My final major project of my degree encapsulates each of these points of interest, to best represent the designer I have become.
